Visit Old Gala House, a striking composite building set in beautiful gardens nestled in the heart of Galashiels. Dating back to 1583, this historic building bears the traces of its fascinating history and the changing times. Once home to the Lairds of Galashiels, the house is now a vibrant museum and gallery which tells the story of the town and its people through permanent displays such as The Clapperton Room and the rare 17th century painted ceiling.

Old Gala House also hosts a lively and varied exhibition programme of visual art, local interest and educational exhibitions throughout the season. This year sees highlights such as Warhol to Walker in partnership with the British Museum as well as shows by local painters, printers and stonecarvers. We also run artist led workshops and talks in conjunction with our exhibitions.

Take a look at our Museums & Galleries Guide 2017 to find out what's on here and at our other museums & galleries to help plan your visit.

Along with the exhibition spaces, Old Gala House has a café with free wifi and a gift shop. The building also serves as an events venue all year round hosting meetings, workshops, weddings, conferences etc. The well tended gardens feature a waterfall and fountain making it a perfect location for relaxing in peaceful surroundings.

We are happy to accommodate specially arranged group visits and educational events connected with the venue, collections or exhibitions. For details or to make arrangements, please contact Assistant Curator, Phoebe Stewart 01750 726456
