Boccia Boost for Borders

Alan Oliver,  our  Disability Development Officer said: 'To hold a National Series Boccia event in the Borders is an honour and testament to how well Boccia has developed throughout the region in the past 2 years. The competition will welcome players from across the country as this might be their last event before the National Championships. It will be a magnificent opportunity for our players to test their skills and gain competitive experience.'

The sport of Boccia has grown rapidly in popularity in the Borders and the region's first Borders Boccia Club was recently formed.

Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive of Borders Sport and Leisure added: 'We now have over 50 players across the Borders participating in Boccia sessions on a weekly basis. This Competition is a brilliant way for them to expand their competitive experience and we hope it will be strongly supported by both players and supporters.  Amongst those hopefully attending will be Patrick Wilson whose prowess in the sport was identified via one of our Disability Multi-Sports Festivals . He has advanced his skills through hard work and dedication and is now member of the Great British National Boccia Squad.  We are all very proud of his achievements and the inspiration he provides to other Borders players.'
