Hawick primary schools on fast track to success

Over 150 pupils from all eight Hawick primary schools competed in 28 track and field events at the Hawick Inter-Schools Athletics.

Building on previous successes, the sporting spectacular, held on Buccleuch Park, attracted so much interest that in order to obtain clear winners, the teams were split into two groups. The winners of the 1919 Cup for this year were Drumlanrig Primary who won the most points in total.

Paul Scott, Live Borders Active Schools Coordinator said: “Throughout the day all the children tried their very best and there were some terrific track and field performances on show. A huge well done to everyone competing. Special mention must be made to Drumlanrig PS who emerged victorious as the overall school champion for 2016, winning the 1919 Cup. Thank you to everyone who was involved, we couldn’t have done it without you.”

The list of events included the 60m sprint, 150m races, One Lap race, Two Lap race, Relays, Standing Triple Jump, High Jump, Shot Put and Javelin.

Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive of Live Borders added: “Championships like this give young people the chance to achieve recognition for all of their hard work and ambition. All of the pupils should be very proud as they have delivered excellent results for their school teams.”
