Athlete Support Programme

The Athlete Support Programme (ASP) was established in October 2007 with the ultimate aim of its participants gaining future representation at Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games or Paralympic Games. It provides individualised support services for the region's performance level athletes and coaches, a number of whom have progressed to represent their country at Scottish and GB senior level. This includes the Commonwealth and Paralympic games.

Services for successful applicants include:

  • Enhanced access to training facilities across the Borders
  • Medical and physiotherapy services
  • Strength/ conditioning programmes and coaching
  • Nutrition advice
  • Sports psychology support
  • Specialist coaching
  • Specialist equipment

Priority is given to sports/disciplines which are involved in the Commonwealth, Olympic or Paralympic Games, although other sports can be considered.

New ASP applications

The Management Group of the Borders Athlete Support Programme are unable to process new applications at this time due to an internal review of services currently being undertaken by the Board of Trustees in partnership with our colleagues from Live Borders Sports Development Team and the Scottish Institute of Sport. We anticipate that this may take a number of months but expect the programme to be fully operational again by September 2018. The Management Group appreciate that this will be frustrating for new applicants however, we ask for your patience to allow us to undertake this important review to ensure our services are robust and meet the needs of performance athletes on the programme. As soon as the review is complete new applications will be considered by the Management Group.
