Peebles High School updates

Peebles High School updates

Please check back for regular updates regarding the Peebles High School and the impact on our facilities.

On Thursday 28 November, a fire broke out at Peebles High School.

The Live Borders’ facilities team has been working closely with Scottish Borders Council, the school management committee, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, community centre management committees and representatives from the local community to provide support.

The school will remain closed until at least Christmas. In the meantime, to enable the 1,300 pupils to continue their education, a number of Live Borders’ venues will be used. At present these are*:

• The Gytes Leisure Centre
• Burgh Hall
• Community Centre/Drill Hall
• Langlee Community Centre
*These may be subject to change.

This will affect existing bookings and activities, but we welcome your understanding at this challenging time, as we try to support the temporary education arrangements for 1,300 high school pupils. We will be working with relevant staff and contacts to communicate with those who have existing bookings that may be impacted. Further updates will be posted here soon.

For further information, please see the Frequently Asked Questions download to the right of this page.

For any further queries, please phone our venues team between 01896 661166 (09:00 – 17:00, Monday – Thursday/ 09:00 – 16:30 on Friday) or the Gytes  01721 723688 (09:00 – 13:00, Saturday – Sunday).

Gytes Leisure Centre opening times

As of Wednesday 11 December, the Gym and Fitness Studio at the Gytes Leisure Centre will be open during the following times:

Monday – Friday: 17:00 – 21:30
Saturday – Sunday: 09:00 – 16:30

The fitness class timetable has changed to suit these amended opening times. Please see the new downloadable class timetable on the right hand side of this page.

Tumbliboo Soft Play will also be open Saturday and Sunday’s between 09:00 and 16:30.

As a reflection of a compromised service offering, we will not be collecting any payment from Gytes Leisure Centre members in January 2020.  Members will be able to continue to use the facility as per revised opening hours above.

Innerleithen Memorial Hall and West Linton Graham Institute

Live Borders can confirm that both the Memorial Hall in Innerleithen and West Linton Graham Institute are not needed to accommodate Peebles High School pupils.

This means that current bookings will not be affected and Live Borders customers will have access to those venues as usual.

We would, however, like to highlight that we have had to move tables, chairs and equipment to other venues, so if you have particular requirements for your booking, please get in touch with our team.

For any queries, please phone our venues team between 01896 661166 (09:00 – 17:00, Monday – Thursday/ 09:00 – 16:30 on Friday) or the Gytes  01721 723688 (09:00 – 13:00, Saturday – Sunday).
