Creative Communities During Lockdown @ Borders Textile Towerhouse

Overview

Creative Communities During Lockdown

Area: Commercial Room, Border Textile Towerhouse
Exhibition Date: Monday 13 September to Monday 25 October 2021

In the middle of a global pandemic it can be hard to find positives.  However, many individuals and communities across the UK rose to the challenge and used creativity to express their experience and feelings during the 2020 lockdown.

We have brought together two of the projects that took place in the Borders.

“My Frame of Mind”, developed by Lara Armitage, Birkhill House, is based on photographic submissions received throughout lockdown.  Participants were asked to identify something or someone who helped them to maintain a positive frame of mind through the pandemic.  These submissions have been put together into a handmade, hand-bound book.

“Ancrum Lockdown Quilt”  Villagers were invited to make textile/multi-media squares expressing their experience of the first lockdown.  These have been stitched together as a quilt and will be permanently displayed in Ancrum Village Hall.
