Acting/Writing workshops with The Actor’s Studio

The thin line between love & hate – new drama workshops at Heart of Hawick

Want to act, write or direct and develop skills in a fun, supportive environment?

After the success of the theatre acting & writing course ‘Look Back In Anger’ earlier this year, comes another theatre writing course for writers and actors. Guided improvisation workshops will encourage devised scripts to emerge to be performed script in hand on April 23 around the themes of love and hate and the darker side of passion.

The course will allow development time to explore, write, re-write before presentation of a final script(s) which dance on the tightrope of passion in all it’s forms.

Lead by playwright/director Clare Prenton from The Actor’s Studio participants will create new script (s) from scratch – weaving stories of extreme passion from the blank page to stage.

No prior experience needed, just bring yourself, a water bottle and your (dark) imagination.

Tuesday evenings at Heart of Hawick from Tuesday 19 March – Tuesday 23 April.
Time: 19.00 – 20.30
Cost £60 (£45) for six weeks
Age: 16+

We believe that arts and creativity are a vital part of societies, as such these workshops are running at reduced cost and being subsidised externally. In addition, we are proud to say that our staff are paid the relevant union rates to their professional fields.

The Actor’s Studio is a new, exciting acting workshop programme lead by professional theatre maker Clare Prenton for anyone aged 16 to 105 who is interested in ‘having a go’ at improvisation in a dynamic and supportive space in what Peter Brook calls ’the empty space’. An exploration of the art of the possible when one has the actor, the space, a director. No preparation or prior acting knowledge is required and no prior reading. Expect the unexpected. Unleash your imagination and have fun.

Ideas may fly into the air, disappear or reappear as improvised or devised work. All you need to bring is yourself, a water bottle, comfy clothes and an open imagination. Each week will begin with a provocation, a question, a theme or idea. There may be props! Games, exercises and improv will take you into your imagination and give your working brain a well earned rest.
