Overview

The Art Collection
A chance to see some of the fine art collection held by Liveborders museums. Showing a broad selection from the collection at Hawick Museum. The collection is made up of works by 19th and 20th century Scottish artists, some from the Borders, but many from other parts of Scotland. Though mainly oil and watercolour paintings, several kinds of print are represented too. A mixture of figurative and abstract, with portraits and landscapes, including many Border scenes. The collection was begun by Hawick Art Club in the 1930s – a club of which distinguished Scottish artist Anne Redpath was a member. The collection grew by bequests, donations and purchases and many well-known Scottish artists feature, such as Horatio McCulloch and William Mactaggart from earlier days to Alberto Morocco and Peter Howson from more recent times. Border artists, for example Tom Scott, William Johnstone and Hawick native George S Ingles, are represented.
