Voices of the Sea by Anne White at Borders Textile Towerhouse

Anne White is a self-taught artist, who lives locally.  She draws her inspiration from many family holidays, going back to her childhood.  Creating these paintings has allowed her to keep these memories alive.  Much of her work focuses on seascapes and she uses a variety of mediums and brush strokes to create textures which capture the changing mood of the sea.

From the power of the waves crashing against rocks, to the tranquillity of the water blending into the sand, Anne’s work is inspired by the beauty created by changing light and mood.  Some of her favourite beaches are on Iona, Harris and Tiree and she has very fond memories of family holidays at Arisaig.

The exhibition includes a map, charting the places depicted in the art works.  There are also accompanying information sheets for visitors who wish to find out more about the locations featured in Anne’s paintings.

There will an opportunity meet Anne White, watch her at work and hear how she used different mediums and textures to create the paintings in her exhibition at Borders Textile Towerhouse on 7 May and 18 June, between 10:00 and 15:00.  This is a free, drop-in event.

‘I am delighted to be exhibiting in Borders Textile Towerhouse.  This exhibition is based on the beauty I have observed through many family holidays from childhood to date.  We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful country and I have a great passion to bring this out on canvas’.  Anne White

‘Anne White’s atmospheric paintings are a joy – their vibrant colours will transport visitors to some of the most beautiful seascapes to be found in Scotland.’  Zilla Oddy, Museum and Gallery Assistant
