Football

Live Borders and the Scottish Football Association work in partnership to provide a comprehensive football development programme for the Scottish Borders.

The aims of the programme are to provide opportunities for all to participate in the game of association football regardless of age, gender, race or ability.

Talent ID

The Advanced Player Development Squad Programme (APDS) has been developed as a platform for the most talented footballers, from across the Scottish Borders, to provide them with the opportunity to reach their footballing potential. Whether this is reaching the highest levels of the professional game or playing to the best of an individual’s ability at a more local level, this programme is the gateway to furthering a footballing career.

Young players face more challenges than ever before, including the need to meet 10,000 hours ‘continual; relevant; high quality practice’ in order to achieve the top levels of their game.

The APDS Programme has been established to provide the continual coaching hours required by running for 50 weeks of the year, with each session lasting 90 minutes.

Coach education

The Scottish FA provides coach education courses at national and regional levels. No matter what level of the game you are involved at, we can help to improve your knowledge and share best practice.

The six Scottish FA regions deliver children and youth courses from Scottish FA Level 1.1 and Level 1.2 to Level 1.3. Levels above this are coordinated from Scottish FA, Hampden Park, Glasgow.
