Library FAQ’s

Do I need to book an appointment to come to the Library?
Yes, you do need to book in advance so we can ensure the building does not get too busy, and you can fully enjoy your time in the space.

Bookings can be made from our website here or by calling 01750 726400 between 11am-3pm Monday-Friday.

Do I have to visit the library alone?
No you can book multiple spaces and visit as a family, it is a lovely space to meet together, or come together to choose some books.

Can children visit the library?
Yes please do bring the kids along; we have missed their little faces! Just remember to include them when booking your slots.

Will visiting the Library be different on reopening?
The library will be a little different as we ensure appropriate hygiene precautions and procedures are in place, but we hope some changes will be for the better!

A friendly member of staff will greet you at the entrance and explain what to do, and staff will direct you depending on the type of booking you have.

Staff are always happy to answer any questions and have a chat, and we are very keen to hear any feedback you may have about your visit.

Will there be a different way to access the building?
Access to the Library will be vary from normal, please look out for the clear signage we have in place and ask a member of staff if necessary

Do I need to wear a face covering in the Library?
Yes, as per Scottish Government guidance face coverings must be worn in libraries unless you have an exemption. Remember to smile with your eyes – we have been practicing!

Will Computers be available?
The library computers are available to customers; please remember to book a slot. Sessions are 45 minutes long, and there will be a smaller number of computers available to allow for social distancing and cleaning. Don’t forget you can also bring your own devices and access the WIFI.

How many items can I borrow?
You can borrow up to 10 items from the Library; we would love to see you leave with a handful!
Through our online eLibrary you can also borrow 2 e-books and 2 e-audiobooks from BorrowBox and you can access e-audiobooks and e-books through the Libby app too.

Can I print or photocopy?
The printing and photocopy service will be available. To use the photocopier please book a browse and select slot so we have allocated space for you in the building. Please be aware that we cannot accept cash at the moment, all payments must be made by card.

Can I return items to the library?
Books can be returned to the drop in box at the Library entrance and you do not have to book in advance to return books, although we would like to see you choose some more!

Can I use the Connect and Collect service at the Library?
Eyemouth, Hawick, Galashiels and Peebles Libraries are the new Connect and Collect point for these towns.

Items can be collected during opening hours and reservations will be available to pick up from Library staff. You do not have to book to collect your Connect & Collect items.

The Connect and Collect mobile service is longer be available at the previous locations now that these libraries have reopened, and we hope this will make it easier for you to access the service!

Please do drop us a call on 01750 726400 between 11:00-15:00 Monday to Friday, we would love to chat and help you with any queries you may have or if you have any additional needs that we can help with to support you with your visit. We have tried to think of everything but we are all learning how to operate in a changing situation so please help us get this right.
