The new museum (pictured above) will provide expanded exhibition space showcasing memorabilia and the Jim Clark trophy collection, two of his race cars, new image galleries, film footage, interactive displays, technology and an education zone.

The £1.6m project is being taken forward by Scottish Borders Council in partnership with Live Borders, The Jim Clark Trust and the Jim Clark Memorial Room Trust.

Funding has come from the Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund, Museums Galleries Scotland and The Jim Clark Trust.

The Quiet Champion

Jim Clark was the leading motor racing driver of the 1960s. In a short career he dominated Formula 1, winning two World Championships in 1963 and 1965. In 1965 driving a Lotus Ford he became the first European driver in 40 years to win the Indianapolis 500.

The Jim Clark Room contains a display of trophies, photographs and other memorabilia. It provides a full and compelling account of Jim’s life in motor racing. A newly opened second room, created with the assistance of the Jim Clark Trust, allows visitors to view new images and watch Mark Stewart’s biographical film on Jim Clark, 'The Quiet Champion.'
