A creative day out with #Coathanger2016
The malty goodness of Octoberfest… The Japanese art of ‘Pecha Kucha’… or a giant ‘woolscape’ takeover at Old Gala House - Creative Coathanger has all of this and more than you could possibly hope for. A concentrated burst of colour, creativity and collaboration, this one of a kind ‘Everything Creative Festival’ is a sure fire way to start Autumn with some gusto!
The project is a collaboration between 12 organisations including the team here at Live Borders. There's something for everybody so we thought it’d be a fine idea to let Peter and Ruth from #coathanger2016 tell us their top 3 favourite suggestions for a creative day out.
Saturday 8 October: A day for the textile lover
Necessities Needed: Your imagination
Back by popular demand, the woolscape at Old Gala House needs your creative attention. Whether you’re a beginner or a superb stitcher, you’ll have a great day contributing to this fab colourful textile scene of Galashiels. What will you knit/ crochet… perhaps a gala day rosette or a fox and some soor plooms? These sessions have been really popular in the past so I’d recommend booking, see here for more info: https://goo.gl/PDSQ3n
Thursday 6 October: A day for discovering new ideas
Necessities Needed: An open mind and some pennies for the bar
Ever heard of ‘Pecha Kucha’? This Japanese art form of presentation is lean and suitably zen. Creatives, Artists, designers and movers and makers share inspiring ideas using only 20 images each discussed for 20 seconds. The folks over at CABN will be hosting their last official Pecha Kucha night at the Mac Arts Centre in Galashiels on the 6th of October at 7.00pm, there will also be a bar so you’re suitably refreshed! Check out this link for some more info: http://www.cabn.info/
A day for Jewellery Lovers:
Necessities Needed: Nothing at all – (Blingy materials are included)
Always wanted to make your own bling? Now’s your chance. Talented Jessie Growden will be leading a workshop exploring the many ways colourful acrylics can be used to create contemporary jewellery. You can even take home all of your fabulous creations to wear yourself or gift to a friend for Christmas. See more here.
Well there you have it, what a selection! Of course that’s not all there’s a massive array of events taking place during the festival so feel free to check out www.creativecoathanger.org for all the info. Why not let us know what you’re doing by hash tagging #coathanger2016 #weliveborders
Have a fab time everyone,
Peter Gilchrist & Ruth Clelland of Creative Coathanger and your team at Live Borders.
