An update from our CEO

Wednesday 23 September

For the last five weeks we have been taking a staged and managed approach to opening services and facilities when we are confident appropriate safety measures for staff and customers are in place. We are delighted to see so many swimmers and users taking advantage of the online booking system, and once again enjoying the facilities – it’s a tribute to the hard work of our staff and to the community support we have received. A big thank you to everyone.

Safety remains our first priority, and while I understand that it may be frustrating to see some facilities open before others or not be fully available to all users on first opening, I would ask for your patience and understanding as we move forward and extend user availability.

We continue to work as quickly as feasibly permitted to get as many people back using our services. We are still working with limited resources to open as widely, broadly and inclusively as possible. While the recent rise in Covid-19 cases is a concern, we are encouraged that the First Minister’s announcement yesterday on new restrictions does not affect our plans to continue a phased re-opening, but it does remind us that we have to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to guidelines and social distancing, and that our considered approach is the right one.

We are looking forward to the re-opening of Galashiels library on 30th September, and hope to make further announcements in the following days. We have always taken great pride in our ability to offer such a diverse range of services to the local community, we must accept however that at this moment in time we unable to meet all expectations, as not all of the services we deliver will continue as quickly as we would like.

Coronavirus has had a huge impact on how we work and live our lives, and our ability to provide services. Community health and wellbeing is a top priority for Live Borders, and we will continue to strive to provide a service to help you feel Happier, Healthier and Stronger.

I will provide more detailed updates as we continue to move forward.

Best wishes
