Get Into Summer – Free sessions announced across the Borders
An unprecedented variety of activities for children and young people across the Borders was announced last week through the launch of the ‘Get into Summer’ programme of events.
The exciting programme offers up a wide range of sporting, social and cultural activities for young people to enjoy throughout the summer months.
Live Borders has today announced that all child, family and fun swim sessions from 5th July until 16 August will be adopted into the Get Into Summer programme, and be free for all users. Hundreds of families and young people will benefit from this initiative throughout the summer holiday period.
Ewan Jackson, CEO Live Borders commented:
“The last year has been exceptionally difficult for everyone, and we are particularly pleased to introduce new family and fun orientated sessions to our pools. Making them free as part of Get Into Summer ensures that they are fully inclusive at a time when we continue our support of the community. Mental health and wellbeing are priorities in delivering our services, and we hope family and young people across the Borders enjoy this opportunity to get back into our pools.”
Jointly organised with Scottish Borders Council and supported by Scottish Government funding, the campaign will help children, young people and families across the region reconnect and reengage with their local communities and the environment and provide opportunities to socialise following a challenging period during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Councillor Carol Hamilton, Executive Member for Children and Young People, said: “Young people have missed out on a range of activities since the COVID-19 pandemic began and popular activities like swimming have not been possible for large periods of time.
“It is fantastic news that a wide variety of swimming sessions will be available through the Get into Summer programme and that all these sessions will be free of charge.”
