Taking place at the Abbey Row Centre in the town the sessions, which started on October 22nd , will run each Thursday and opportunities on offer include mini kickers – football based session for boys and girls aged 1.5 – 5 years and mini-tryers, rugby based sessions for children aged 2 – 5 years.
Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive of Borders Sport and Leisure said: “Our aim is to provide opportunities for exercise to people of all ages in the community from little children through to retirees. We trialed some “minis sessions” in Kelso over Easter and got a great response, so we are hoping that lots of children will come along to enjoy this new programme.”
Borders Sport and Leisure already runs “minis sessions” in Galashiels, Hawick and Peebles as part of the organisation’s commitment to encouraging children to be active from an early age.
Ewan Jackson continued: “Involving children in exercise and sport in a fun and accessible way from an early age can have a long lasting impact on their lives and set them on the pathway to becoming active adults and enjoying the many health benefits this brings.”
