Santa is coming to Harestanes
Santa is coming to Harestanes this festive season. Santa’s Harestanes Happening is a brand new, exciting event for families taking you on a magical Christmas adventure in the Scottish Borders.
Santa’s Harestanes Happening will take place Thursday to Sunday throughout December with a colourful, guided Christmas walk. It’s going to be a fantastic adventure for all the family including a Santa’s Grotto experience, the opportunity to relax and unwind with hot drinks and lovely food as well as perusing our newly refurbished retail haven.
Tickets are already on sale and are available here: http://bit.ly/HarestanesHappening.
‘Santa’s Harestanes Happening’, depicts an original Christmas tale where all of the odds are stacked against Santa as he carries out one of his regular test routes across the Scottish Borders. The story opens,
“Bilberry the elf is missing; the sleigh has broken down… Santa’s grounded at Harestanes! He urgently needs your help to fly back to Lapland in time for Christmas”.
The festive programme launch coincides with the refurbishment of the centre’s retail area which has been revamped to provide a shopping experience sure to inspire Christmas gift ideas. The new range includes everything from Icelandic undyed organic sheepskin throws to authentic Scottish products. Harestanes is becoming ‘The Destination for Escapism’ and the story reflects an exciting new chapter at the venue.
Michael Scott, Centre Manager, Harestanes commented:
“During the event families and groups will help Santa find his elfish companion as well as the extremely important magic icicles that power his sleigh, thus seeing him safely back to Lapland just in time for Christmas!”.
“As well as the ‘adventure walk’, little ones and their families will then get to enjoy their own Santa’s Grotto experience, relax and unwind with hot drinks and lovely food as well as perusing our newly refurbished retail haven. We’ve made sure the event takes place on one level as well so that it’s inclusive for everyone.
“We’ve worked hard to create a unique experience that fits in well with the fabulous offerings provided by our neighbouring businesses”.
Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive, Live Borders commented:
“Harestanes is a fantastic visitor attraction and day out for all the family. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone this festive season at Santa’s Harestanes Happening.
We’re focusing our efforts to help extend the tourist season in the Borders and develop Harestanes as a year-round attraction for those living and visiting the area”.
“By extending our opening hours we hope to drive footfall to the site and provide neighbourly support to the other business people trading at Harestanes”.
Paula Ward, VisitScotland Regional Manager, said:
“Santa’s Harestanes Happening sounds like a fantastic unique event for all the family that is sure to get locals and visitors in the festive spirit. Everyone knows that Santa is a massive fan of the Scottish Borders and he will be looking forward to paying a visit to children across the region, from Eyemouth to Peebles, Hawick to Lauder, and especially Harestanes.
“It is also fitting that this event will take place with the 2018 Year of Young People just around the corner. The 2018 Themed Year provides a unique opportunity to create new and valuable experiences for young people and their families and visitors. We can look forward to many more exciting events like this taking place in the Scottish Borders next year.
“Events like this also, provide a boost to the local visitor economy by enhancing our region’s tourism offering and attracting more visitors to the Scottish Borders, further raising the profile and reputation of the region as an outstanding place to visit.”
Douglas Hunter, from Hunter Art & Tile Studio, one of the neighbouring businesses at Harestanes commented:
“We’ve been based at Harestanes in the craft courtyard since 1982. Harestanes has long been a centre for the community and a cultural hub, I have every hope that the extra footfall at Harestanes this November and December will add to the lively ambience of Christmas.”
Rachel Collins, Harestanes Glass Studio, another neighbour said:
“It’s great news that the visitor centre will be open throughout November and December. The programme of festive activities is a very welcome addition as the glass Studio will be running a series of Christmas workshops.”
