Selkirk Leisure Centre to reopen
Fitness fanatics in Selkirk will have a bright new outlook on Monday September 19 when the local Leisure Centre throws open its doors once again.
The long awaited upgrade to the Buccleuch Road site began in May, laying to rest fears concerning the long term future of the popular facility.
Funded by Live Borders and Sportscotland the £500,000 refurbishment has come in on time and on budget and will open to the public at 9am on the Monday morning.
Ewan Jackson, Live Borders Chief Executive, said: “The improvements have transformed Selkirk Leisure Centre and will protect its future for at least the next 10 years.
“We would like to thank the Selkirk public for their patience while this work has been undertaken and hope, like us, they feel it was a very worthwhile project.
“The upgrade will provide better opportunities for the people of Selkirk and surrounding communities to take part in sport and physical activity in an excellent facility.”
The centre now boasts a new larger gym, exercise studio, improved seating and viewing area, new sauna, redesigned changing village and improved accessibility into the facility.
Elements of the mechanical plant in the building (heating/ventilation) have also been upgraded.
It’s not only the adults of Selkirk who will benefit from the refurbishment as the studio will become the home of a new programme of pre-school activity sessions like Mini Gymnastics and Mini Tryers..
