Developing young people

Active Schools operate a number of national and local initiatives across all cluster areas of the Scottish Borders.

Community Sports Leadership Award

Sports Leaders is a nationally recognised qualification that equips young people with the skills and motivation needed to create and run sporting activities. This runs throughout the school year and includes leading sessions in local primary schools.

Young Ambassadors

Young Ambassadors is a programme for young people in school between the ages of 14 and 17. Their role is to motivate and inspire other young people from the primary and secondary schools within their local community to get involved in sport and to generate enthusiasm for major games.

Young Coach Academy

The Young Coach Academy was established in August 2012 as part of our contribution to a lasting legacy for the Scottish Borders and recognises the importance of young people leading and coaching in sport and physical activity. Each year between two and four candidates from all nine local clusters are offered the platform to better themselves and to take coaching as far as they possibly can through a structured year long development plan. Importantly, at the same time it is an opportunity to become fully embedded in their community and play a vital role in encouraging children and young people to take part in sport and physical activity now and into adulthood.
