New Performing Arts Partnership Turns up the Volume for Young Hawick Musicians
1 October 2026
A new series of workshops to help young musicians play live is set to launch this month at Heart of Hawick. ‘AMPLIFY – How to be in a Band’ is the first initiative in a new partnership between The Arches Art Centre and Live Borders Arts & Creativity.
The free workshops are designed for any Hawick young people aged 14-18 years old who dream of being in a band, helping them feel more confident on stage or supporting them in taking their playing to the next level.
The hands-on workshop series is being led by The Arches Art Centre Chairman David Chapman, with invited guest also dropping in to share their experience and expertise with the young people. The partnership will be looking to support up to 10 local youngsters looking to broaden their experience in the music industry.
David commented: “AMPLIFY is a great example of what we want The Arches to be about. Giving young people the chance to learn, get involved, build confidence and experience something they might not otherwise have the opportunity to do.
“We want to keep creating opportunities for people in Hawick and the wider community, and partnerships like this with Live Borders and Heart of Hawick allow us to do exactly that.”
The Live Borders Arts & Creativity team at Heart of Hawick will act as hosts to the workshops and will work with The Arches to provide a supporting and high-energy experience for potential stars of the future to plug in and made some noise.
Arts & Programming Manager Jason Moyes said. “If anyone between 14-18 who can already play a bit of guitar, bass, drums, keyboard or can see themselves as the singer in a band, this is their chance to get louder, sharper, and stage ready.”
In partnership with The Arches and Live Borders Arts & Creativity, the workshops run from Heart of Hawick every Monday, 6.30pm – 8.30pm, from Monday 26th October.
