Our café opening times are Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10:00-15:00, however these will be continually reviewed.

Built in the early 1800’s as a spinning mill, Heart of Hawick stands proud at the end of Hawick High Street and hints of its heritage and history can be found throughout the building. A special feature of the building is our 14-foot high Victorian waterwheel that previously powered the mill and can be viewed through a unique glass floored area in our café.

Since its official opening in 2007 Heart of Hawick has been the home for arts and cultural activity and has worked with the community and organisations to make and create work that everyone and can take part in and enjoy and support people’s health and wellbeing.

With a 111 seat auditorium/cinema, you can watch a newly released film or a production streamed live from the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company and Royal Opera House or enjoy work produced by talented local performing artists and groups. Keep an eye out for our upcoming cinema programme which we are busy working on at the moment.

Our café bar is the perfect place to sit back and soak up the atmosphere and we even have a designated dog space in the café for well-behaved dogs and their owners!

There are a range of flexible and multi-purpose spaces, including our auditorium which is available to hire for activities such as classes, business meetings and private functions. Light catering can be provided by our in-house café team.  Click HERE to find out more.

We are also home to Alchemy Film & Arts who are a cultural organisation invested in experimental film as a means of generating discussion, strengthening community and stimulating creative thought.

Founded in 2010, Alchemy has grown to be an enduring fixture in the Hawick landscape and beyond offering a diverse range of year-round events including an annual film festival which attracts audiences far and wide.

We work in partnership with a range of local and national organisations and our re-opening plans are supported by the Scottish Government’s Performing Arts Venue Relief Fund, administered by Creative Scotland, which have enabled us to plan for a sustainable future
