Healthier, happier, stronger

Health conditions & exercise referral

Live Borders has a passion and drive to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone living in the Scottish Borders. We have various programmes that can support people into leading heathier, happier and stronger lifestyles. We know that being active while coping with a long-term health condition is never easy and this is why we offer suitable and supported options at a discounted rate. Our goal is to give you the tools to lead a healthy and active lifestyle by reducing your risk of developing further health issues.

There are a number of class options within the programme, including Health Conditions classes, Gentle Movement, Older Adults and Walking Groups which are delivered by our instructors and volunteers across the Borders. Please speak to your local healthcare professional to refer you into this programme or contact the Live Borders Health Team to discuss further.

Some of the options we have are:

Steadi: Follow on class from falls prevention for individuals who have balance and mobility issues. These classes focus on improving lower limb strength, balance and flexibility and can be performed from a seated or standing position.

Gentle Movement/Walking: All options are low level which include outdoor activities and health walks. Gentle Movement is a class that focuses on breathing awareness and relaxation.

Health Condition Classes: Moderate level class which takes place within a closed studio or gym environment. These classes are designed to accommodate various health conditions both physical & mental and can be tailored to meet individual ability.

Activity Referral Membership: Once you have been referred by your GP, Physio, or other Health Care professional, you will be contacted by one of our qualified members of staff. We will ask you a few questions, listen to what you have to say and then support you in making physical activity part of your life.

You can access our all-inclusive membership which covers exercise classes (inc our Health Programme classes), swimming and gym sessions in all Live Borders facilities costing £24 for 4 weeks. The membership pass can be renewed up to 6 times providing a total of 24 weeks of subsidised membership. Facilities can also be accessed on a pay as you go basis.

It does not matter if you have never been a particularly active person. We have options for all preferences and abilities. Gym inductions and tailored gym programmes can be provided where appropriate.

Speak to your Health Care professional if you think this programme is for you and you would like to be referred.
