Our Victorian Collection is on display at Hawick Museum ad Jedburgh Castle Jail.
We have developed a range of learning and engagement resources designed to support teaching with Victorian collections.
We are delighted to share these resources for use in your own learning and engagement programmes. Please note that the materials should not be edited, and all acknowledgements to the Live Borders must remain in place.
In Hawick Museum you can find a –
- Replica of a Victorian Classroom
- Victorian Household Items in our Domestic Room.
In Jedburgh you can visit a real Victorian Castle Jail, you will also find activity sheets and dress up as a Victorian prisoner.
Borrow a Museum in a Box
To support classroom learning, you can borrow our Museum in a Box by emailing libadmin@liveborders1.org.uk.
We have a choice of Victorian Loan Boxes available –
- Victorian School Days
- Victorian Household
These boxes are free to borrow and can be:
- Collected from our storage facility at St Mary’s Mill, Selkirk, or
- Delivered to your local library via our Mobile Library Service (please email to arrange booking and delivery).
Guided Tours and Education Sessions
For a guided tour, including handling objects led by our Education Officer, please contact museums@liveborders1.org.uk.
We recommend a suggested donation of £1 per pupil.
Self-Led Visits
Self-led visits are free and always welcome. Please get in touch to let us know when you plan to visit.
Risk Assessments
You are welcome to visit the museum to carry out your own risk assessment ahead of your visit or you can email our education team at museums@liveborders1.org.uk for a copy of ours.
