The Great Tapestry of Scotland visitor centre recognised among the top 10% of visitor attractions around the world

The Great Tapestry of Scotland has been recognised among the top 10% of visitor attractions worldwide, having been named a winner of the Tripadvisor® Travellers’ Choice® Awards for 2026 for the third year running.

This global recognition reflects another award-winning year for the iconic Galashiels visitor attraction, home to one of the UK’s most significant examples of modern-day documentary heritage. The Great Tapestry of Scotland captures the collective memories of people across Scotland, including the Scottish Borders, charting the nation’s story from millions of years BC to the present day.

Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Award is a prestigious honour based entirely on authentic reviews and ratings from real travellers over the past 12 months. As the world’s largest travel guidance platform, Tripadvisor’s awards are a trusted mark of excellence, shining a light on destinations and attractions that consistently deliver unforgettable experiences.

The centre, which is managed by Live Borders (the charitable trust responsible for public sport, leisure, culture, libraries, museums and heritage services across the Scottish Borders), is home to the Tapestry Gallery, Gallery 1420 (for visiting exhibits), a café, workshop space and shop. It has received numerous awards including the South of Scotland Thistle Award for Inclusion. It is currently open seven days a week from 9:30am, last entry 3:30pm (doors close 5pm).
