Scottish International Storytelling Festival: Untold Stories - Final Performance

Overview

Live Borders Arts and Heart of Hawick Presents (More) Untold Stories: Tales from the Town.

In April of this year, eleven untold stories from the Hawick archives were shared live on the Heart of Hawick stage.

The performance was a result of a ten-week community theatre project led by Live Borders Arts & Creativity and the Heart of Hawick, where stories inspired by Hawick’s heritage were brought to life by project participants. Through a series of workshops, led by local theatre makers Ellie Zeegan and Clare Prenton, participants developed their ideas into scripts and monologues alongside learning stagecraft and performance skills. Participants were supported to seek out tales from the town to use as inspiration for their scripts. New work was developed through improvisation along with input from local historian Alastair Redpath and the Scottish Borders Archive run by Live Borders Museums. Stories included David Bowie’s only performance in the Town Hall, the life and times of Hawick born opera singer Isobel Baillie and knitting of underwear for an Everest expedition.

Join us for our next iteration of Untold Stories where participants, as Heart of Hawick’s new in-house ensemble theatre company, will be digging deeper into the town’s heritage and culture, sharing what they find through a rehearsed reading.
