Ungetatable
Overview
Ungetatable – a performed reading of a radio play by Janet Coulson and Ellie Zeegen
Following the success of its premiere in front of a live audience at Duns PlayFest earlier this year, the new radio play Ungetatable – George Orwell’s nickname for Barnhill, his cottage on the island of Jura – will once more be performed by Firebrand Theatre Company in collaboration with Live Borders and Heart of Hawick.
Ungetatable was written as a celebration of the 75th anniversary publication of 1984 and inspired by the brilliant female writer and academic, Eileen O’ Shaughnessy, who married Orwell and helped edit a significant number of his works before her tragic early death. It is a haunting narrative of global threat, spoken by a mysterious woman determined to discover and set down the truth as she knows it. Ungetatable shines a light into the past whilst echoing and entwining two visions of a future that could be upon us sooner than we think.
Featuring Ellie Zeegen as Eileen, Janet Coulson as Eve and sound design by Jason Moyes the reading will be followed by a Q&A/feedback session with the actor-writers, giving audiences the chance to feed into the creative process involved in the development of a new work by the award-winning Borders based theatre company.
