Jedburgh Castle Jail and Museum reopens on 28 March 2026

Jedburgh Castle Jail reopens for the season on Saturday 28 March with a new display to mark the 50th anniversary of The Rotary Club of Jedburgh. This looks back at the origins of the Club and the many projects which it has been involved with over the years. Photographs, banners and other memorabilia are on show.

The Easter Trail starts on 28 March and runs until 12 April. For a small charge, children can have fun finding hidden letters around the Jail to make a word and then claim a little prize. There are also opportunities for youngsters to dress up and enjoy plenty of hands-on activities.

Built in the 1820s on the site of the old Jedburgh Castle, the building is full of atmosphere and has gained a reputation for ghostly sightings! The cell blocks give an idea of what prison life was like in the nineteenth century. Discover why some people thought it was ‘the most comfortable jail in Scotland.’

The jailer’s house is home to the town’s museum, charting the history of Jedburgh from ancient times, right up to the Millennium. A new exhibition opened last year with fascinating local photographs and objects, including toys, books and household items dating from 1950-2000, which bring back nostalgic memories.

Opening times: Open Monday to Saturday 10 am – 4 pm and Sunday 10 am – 3 pm

(Please note: last entry into the Jail will be 30 minutes prior to closing time)

Paranormal investigations and overnight visits are available by arrangement.

Admission is free – donations welcome
