QueenEsque

A special kind of magic came to Selkirk on Friday 10 August to play in the fantastic Victoria Halls. Lancashire-based tribute band QueenEsque kicked off a series of brand new live music performances that are taking place across our town halls in the Borders.

Fronted by Mark ‘Freddie’ Fletcher, QueenEsque are five musicians with one vision – to keep the energy and spectacle of Queen’s live shows alive. The high-quality act came to Selkirk as part of their 2018 Three Nations tour, performing a range of the best-loved and well-known songs by rock legends Queen, from ‘We Will Rock You’ to ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

Ben Lamb, our Facilities Manager,  recognised the importance of the event to the community:

“We are investing time, effort and budget to ensure these are lively, fun and community-focused venues where residents and visitors alike can enjoy a great evening out.”

The tour coincides with the release of the new Queen biopic this summer, and front man Fletcher saw their Borders performance as offering a unique opportunity for those of all ages to experience the live music of Queen in their home surroundings, adding “We are really delighted to bring our show to Selkirk and perform at the town’s magnificent Victoria Halls. Venues like this are a treasured asset, not only to the communities that have them, but also to all the musicians and performers that need places like this in order to do what we love to do.”

By the end of the show, the audience were all standing and singing along, especially with all the iconic outfit changes and the appearance of a young Freddie, Mark’s son! One audience member commented that “If I closed my eyes, it could have been Queen playing. The band were that good!”

Make sure you don’t miss out on the rest of our great range of events, the full programme of which is available HERE.
