Queens Leisure Centre
Overview
Important update: Queens Leisure Centre
Queens Leisure Centre will close on 31 March 2026 as part of wider changes to local sport and leisure facilities. We want to keep our customers informed and supported throughout this transition, and to share what this means for your activities and bookings .
Exciting new facilities at Galashiels Academy
Phase 1 of the new Academy is now complete and already in use, offering modern, high-quality indoor spaces for sport and community activity. Many clubs and customers are already enjoying these facilities, and we encourage you to visit and see them for yourself.
Phase 2 of the Academy will include a 3G pitch, 2G pitch and athletics facilities, which will significantly increase capacity. These facilities are still to be completed.
Availability before Phase 2 is complete
Until Phase 2 is delivered, space is more limited than it will be in the future. At present:
- There is no daytime community access, as indoor spaces are required for school use
- Community bookings are mainly available in the evenings and at weekends
We are working hard to make the best possible use of the available space and to accommodate as many groups as we can.
Evening bookings
We are carefully reviewing all existing evening bookings at Queens Leisure Centre and matching them to available slots at the Academy.
- Wherever possible, we aim to offer the same day and time
- In some cases, alternative times or days may be needed due to demand
- A small number of activities may not be able to continue at this stage; if this affects you, we will contact you directly and discuss this.
Weekend activities and parties
All weekend activities, including birthday parties, will move to the Academy from the end of February 2026.
- Sunday 28 February 2026 will be the final weekend of operation at Queens
- If you already have a weekend booking after this date, we will contact you with details of your new arrangements at the Academy
Bookings after 31 March 2026
If you have a booking scheduled after the full closure date of 31 March 2026, we will be in touch directly to confirm:
- Your new booking at the Academy, or
- Where space limitations mean a transfer is not currently possible
No new bookings will be taken beyond the closure date.
Gymnastics programme
We are currently securing suitable alternative venues for the gymnastics programme. Once arrangements are confirmed, those involved will receive a separate, direct update.
