Structures in a Different Light

The ‘Structures in a Different Light’ exhibition is to stay a few more days until the end of season at Old Gala House. Some of the beautiful Art pieces are still on show but now in the upstairs corridor hanging space. This is an exciting collaborative Art exhibition where degraded, abandoned or overlooked buildings are set in suspension against a contrast of organic surroundings. Feeling the echoes of what once was or exploring different ways of expressing a response to a place.

Focus is on ‘Light Colour & atmosphere’ exploring the emotional and atmospheric resonance of place.

Margaret Findlay explores the Abandonment of cottages and farm buildings seeing the careful construction, the sights, sounds & beauty of their heyday. Margaret captures the quality of light that comes from gaping roofs, bouncing down from beam to beam. “Man-made constructions are mostoften functional, sometimes beautiful but always finite”.

Nicola Ferri focuses her interest in ‘Brutalist’ architecture, looking at the movement and life within concrete, often in overlooked spaces of an urban environment with a juxtaposition between an organic surrounding and the structural rigidity of a building, a coexisting presence. Colour plays a central role, conveying mood, light, and atmosphere. A sense of playfulness and curiosity underpins her approach, investigating the tension between what is observed and what is felt.
