Art, Culture Café bar in the centre of Hawick

Heart of Hawick

Heart of Hawick – The Heart of Entertainment in the Scottish Borders

Standing proudly at the top of Hawick High Street, Heart of Hawick has been a home for arts and cultural activity since 2007.  It is the cornerstone of the cultural quarter that includes Borders Textile Towerhouse and The Heritage Hub in the centre of the Scottish Border’s largest town.

Towermill is steeped in heritage and history, a special feature being the 14-foot high Victorian waterwheel that can be viewed through a unique glass floored area in our café.  The building is now a contemporary space to meet, imbibe, enjoy cinema and live events, even plug in to work via our hot-desking facility or hire out our office facilities and meeting spaces.

The Heart of Hawick is the heart of Film, Music, Drama, Comedy and Discussion in the Scottish Borders!

Heart of Film

You can watch a newly released film or a production streamed live from the selection of national and international events we have access to. We also feature a range of family and classic movies as well as a programme of recent independent releases.  We are also home to Alchemy Film & Arts, who use experimental film as a means to strengthening community and stimulating creative thought.  They present a programme of year-round events including their annual film festival weekend.

Heart of Music

Intimate performances in an intimate space: a series of concerts featuring traditional music, folk song, classic and cutting edge jazz, soulful singer-songwriters and tributes to rock and pop classics.

Heart of Drama

With home-grown talent and cutting edge theatrical productions, we create opportunities for youth theatre and community projects as well as important independent theatre from Scotland and beyond.

Heart of Comedy

Lots of LOL!  We bring you the best new and established names on the touring circuit.

Heart of Discussion

A wide range of lectures, conversations and book readings with an accent on heritage, the contemporary community and local celebrities. Your chance to get talking!

We have great facilities for all the family!

The auditorium has comfortable seating for up to 111 people with state of the art screening facilities and a first class sound system. We can stream broadcast events or link in for your conference needs.  The space can also transform into an intimate production setting for live music, drama, comedy or discussion.  With a sprung floor we can even have dance!  It is available for hire for activities such as classes, business meetings (with break out spaces available) and private functions.

Technical Specifications to follow.

The café bar has space to serve 100 covers, some with views directly over the falls of Slitrig Water.  We’re open seven days a week for a light lunch or drop in for a quick coffee fix.  It’s the perfect place to sit back and soak up the atmosphere – we’ve even got a designated dog space so you and your best friend can rest between walkies.

The mezzanine level on the first floor can be used for private parties with VIP event spaces in the auditorium or for a quieter informal meeting space. Light catering can be provided by our in-house café team for meetings and parties.
