A Week of Discovery for All Ages Exploring Maths in Nature

Live Borders Museums and Libraries are delighted to announce funding has been secured to deliver an exciting programme of Maths Week Scotland events in Hawick this September.

In a dynamic collaboration between Borders Textile Towerhouse, Hawick Museum and Hawick Library, the town will host a range of creative, inspiring, and inclusive maths-themed events aimed at schools, community groups, and families from Monday 22nd – Saturday 27th September 2025.

Highlights of the week will include:

  • Special Guest Events at Hawick Library: Schools and community groups are invited to enjoy interactive sessions with a special guest, exploring the wonders of mathematics in fun and engaging ways.
  • Drop-In Self-Led Activities at Borders Textile Towerhouse:
    Throughout the week, visitors can explore Play with Patterns and Colour, self-led activities that highlight the fascinating use of maths in textiles. Discover symmetry, repetition, and geometry through the rich textile heritage of the Borders in this inspiring hands-on experience.
  • ASN Family Fun Session: A dedicated session will take place on Friday 26th September, 11am – 12.30pm, at Hawick Museum offering a supportive and inclusive environment to explore maths through play and discovery
  • Wild Maths Family Fun Day at Hawick Museum: Saturday 27th SeptemberFree and drop-in!
    Join us for a day of creativity, exploration, and discovery as we delve into Wild Maths – exploring how maths appears naturally in the world around us.

 

This Maths Week Scotland celebration is part of a national initiative to make maths more accessible and engaging for all. It is run in partnership between National Museums Scotland and the Scottish Government.
