Hawick Celebrates The Beatles

The closest The Beatles ever got to the Borders was in 1963 when they played in Carlisle, at The Regal in February then again at the ABC Cinema in November of that year. Now over 60 years on, one of the UK’s leading Beatles tribute bands is coming to the region with ‘The Beatles Touring Years’ featuring all the hits from 1963 through to 1966 performed live on stage.

The Cavern Beatles are widely regarded as being as close to the real thing as you are ever likely to get, and Live Borders are offering free tickets for their show to anyone from the area who made the journey to Carlisle back in 1963 to see the Fab Four.

The Cavern Beatles are one of the country’s longest established tribute shows, able to recreate the incredible Beatles back catalogue with fastidious accuracy, both musically and vocally. By focussing on the touring years fans will have the opportunity to hear live renditions of all the hits from the period, but also album tracks and B-sides.

The Beatles made 292 appearances at the now legendary Cavern Club in Mathew Street, Liverpool.  Now, The Cavern Beatles, a band fully endorsed and licensed by the same club are bringing their remarkable show to The Town Hall.

“The Beatles spent much of 1963 touring England, including dates at The Cavern, with just a few live shows in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.” Jason Moyes from show organisers Live Borders Arts & Creativity said. “They played in Carlisle on 8 February, then two days later were in the studio recording ten of the songs that would appear on ‘Please Please Me.’ They returned on 21 November 1963, a day before the release of ‘With the Beatles’, also the day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, so quite a memorable time.“

Live Borders Arts & Creativity want to hear from anyone who saw The Beatles in the early 1960’s, and who would happily share their memories.  You can contact them by calling 01896 661166 or emailing artservice@liveborders1.org.uk.

“We are hoping to show some Beatles related films at Heart of Hawick, run some Beatles related creative arts workshops, and have a display of Beatles related books along at the library. We hope that Hawick can celebrate the Beatles with us.
