Jim Clark Museum extends opening hours

Following an overwhelming response from the public, the Jim Clark Motorsport Museum have announced they will be extending their opening hours from Monday 24 August.

The Duns museum reopened its doors following lockdown on July 18, just over a year after it was launched, and has been encouraged by positive ticket sales and feedback from the public.

The museum is currently open Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will open on Monday’s from later this month.

“We re-opened to the public in July and since then have seen good demand and positive feedback on the experience we offer,” Shona Sinclair, Curator for the Jim Clark Motorsport Museum said.

“Based on the enthusiastic response to the limited ticketing offer we reopened the museum with, we have increased opportunities to visit by adding a Monday opening to our weekly offering from Monday 24 August.

“By opening on Monday’s we hope to will appeal to a wide range of visitors, from holidaymakers to those living in the community, extending opportunities for booking over a long weekend.

“We have had a large number of days completely booked out which is great and plenty of interest in booking for visits in the months ahead which are now available online.”

Visitors will be able to enjoy a new audio-visual display at the museum that gives more information, images and film footage of the two cars currently on display – both of which were driven by Jim Clark during his racing career.  A Lotus 25 on loan from Museum Tinguely in Switzerland and Dario Franchitti’s ex-Jim Clark Lotus Cortina.

Celebrating the life and career of Jim Clark, Scotland’s first Formula 1 World Champion and one of the greatest racing drivers of all time, the museum showcases his life in the Borders, his incredible career, and his reputation as a gentleman. The permanent display includes cars, films, photographs, and Clark’s trophies.

New for 2020, is ‘Clark on Canvas’ – an exhibition of artworks of the Jim Clark era of motor racing produced by members of the Guild of Motoring Artists, an international guild dedicated to automotive art. Visitors will be able to admire over 20 different paintings by artists from around the world.

Opening times from Monday 24 August:

Friday & Saturday: 10:00 – 16:00 (Closed 12:15 – 13:15)
Sunday: 13:00 – 16:00
Monday: 10:00 – 16:00 (Closed 12:15 – 13:15)

A limited number of tickets are available for advanced booking in 20-minute intervals each day to ensure visitors are able to enjoy the museum safely.
