Magical Mozart by Candlelight

Kelso’s Tait Hall will be immersing itself in the classical baroque world of one of the greatest romantic composers ever at the end of the month!

Magical Mozart by Candlelight is being brought to the Borders by the producers of A Viennese Strauss Gala, and features a packed programme of classical music and song, which includes excerpts from the most memorable of Mozart’s operas, such as: The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, Cosi Fan Tutte, Don Giovanni and many more.

With beautiful settings, costumes, lighting, and of course candles, the European Baroque Ensemble, consisting of some of the finest classical players in the continent, transport you back to the sumptuous past. The candle-light perfectly evoking the baroque period of the Maestro Mozart’s heyday.

World class soloists including South African Baritone – Denver Martin Smith, Hungarian corralaturra soprano Alinka Kozari – Hungarian Soprano and the Australian diva, soprano and doyen of the Sydney opera house – Saira Luther will also be on hand to deliver an evening of Mozart masterpieces.

The great success of this show is that it brings Mozart to life in a way which appeals as much to the aficionado and opera buff as it does to the uninitiated viewing opera for the first time.

Stephen Leatherhead is producing and directing the spectacle and said: “As someone who has brought innumerable show to theatres throughout the U.K and in particular for Scotland for over 20 years from Edinburgh to Inverness and many places in between, I am very excited at the prospect of bringing our high quality show to the Borders and working with Live Borders to bring renowned performers and top quality entertainment to the region.’

We have a plan to breathe new life into underused local town halls in the hope of creating affordable and high-quality events across the region. Hamish, our Events and Programming Officer adds “We are eagerly anticipating Magical Mozart by candlelight coming to Kelso as the nights draw in. The production combines high quality musical performances but also conveys the personality and daring of Mozart in a way that is very modern. It is the latest performance in a series of events that we are putting on across town halls to invigorate town halls and create a diverse range of offerings for all the community to enjoy.”
