Mischief Makers

The Summer Reading Challenge 2018 is well on the way across our libraries!

The Summer Reading Challenge is a nation-wide scheme which encourages children aged 4-11 across the UK to develop their reading skills, take part in competitions and to play games during the summer holiday period. It’s run by the national charity, The Reading Agency, and sponsored by Tesco Bank.

The theme this year is Mischief Makers, inspired by the much-loved Beano which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.

You can sign up at your local library, where children can pick up to 6 books of their choice to complete the challenge, collecting different rewards along the way!

Our libraries have been very busy hosting various events in connection with the challenge, from making sunglasses and bookmarks to animating your own cartoon characters and even some time with wee beasties at our Zoolab sessions.

We have been lucky enough to have authors and illustrators come along and help us out, including the animator Simone Russell, authors of Badger the Mystical Mutt, McNicol and Jackson, Kate McLelland and more!

The Reading Agency has even put together this handy booklist for any parents struggling to help their children decide on their 6 books! Find it here https://readinggroups.org/resources/2920
