Weaving Across Borders

‘Weaving Across Borders’ is a cleverly titled collaborative exhibition between us and the lovely people over at the Scottish Basketmakers’ Circle and the Northumbrian Basketry Group. It showcases the rich heritage of basket-making that thrives today on both sides of the border.

From traditional baskets to contemporary pieces, the diversity of woven material and techniques displayed is both innovative and captivating and may surprise you.

“The members of the Scottish Basketmakers’ Circle and Northumbria Basketry Group welcome the opportunity to showcase their work at Tweeddale Museum and we hope it encourages other people to try this wonderful craft. There are many places where you can learn basketry skills as listed on our various websites,” said Janice Hall, member of the Scottish Basketmakers’ Circle.

Phoebe, one of our Assistant Curators at Live Borders, said, “‘We are very excited to see the incredible creations from the Scottish Basketmakers’ Circle and the Northumbrian Basketry Group as they showcase the best of weaving traditions old and new.”

The exhibition runs from 4 May to 8 June at Tweeddale Museum and Gallery, Chambers Institution, High Street, Peebles, EH45 8AG. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
