About the Galashiels Route

The Pool swim will take place in the brand-new swimming facility within the GalashielsCommunity Campus, located just a stone’s throw from the former Galashiels Swimming Pool. This upgraded venue is part of a wider development project and, as such, there iscurrently no dedicated parking available at the new pool. All event-day parking will therefore be on-street parking in the surrounding area.

The pool is a 25m, 6-lane facility. The swim will run in waves based on competitors’ submitted estimated swim times. Transition will be located in the adjacent area, which will be sealed off for event use. Please avoid parking at Livingstone Place, as access will be restricted.

The cycle route in Galashiels offers  the same challenging climb over Windyknowe and onto the A72, passing by the Torwoodlee estate en route to Clovenfords village. Riders will then ascend over Cliff Road to the Nest Roundabout—named for the herons nesting in the nearby trees—before turning to run parallel with the River Tweed, known for its salmon fishing. The route continues through Caddonfoot and turns off by Yair Bridge.

Enjoy the scenic return towards Galashiels via The Rink farm and Holly Bush. The final descent into town takes you past the Mercat Cross, the marrying place of Margaret Tudor (daughter of King Henry VII) and King James IV. The next turn leads you past St Paul’s Church, home to nesting peregrine falcons and situated opposite the picturesque Old Gala House, the original abode of the Earls of Galashiels.

Our Galashiels events feature a superb running route, including a cultivated woodland trail through Gala Policies—the enclosed grounds of a former estate, home to the ruins of New Gala House, once residence of the Scotts of Galashiels

We look forward to seeing you there!
