Discover a town’s treasures in a historic house set in a beautiful park.  This 18^th century mansion became home to the town’s museum in 1910 making it the oldest museum in the Scottish Borders.

The objects and artworks on display at Hawick Museum tell more than the story of the town itself; they offer a window onto the wider world. Visitors can explore displays covering subjects such as Ancient Egypt, archaeology, Victorian life, and much more.

The War Memorial Room brings to life the experiences of Hawick and its people during times of conflict through fascinating objects and engaging audio-visual presentations, while the Old Schoolroom and the interactive Park Gallery are always popular with visitors of all ages.

Two further permanent exhibitions are dedicated to Jimmie Guthrie and Steve Hislop. These displays celebrate the lives and achievements of Hawick’s two tragic motorcycle racing champions, making the museum a must-visit destination for motorcycling enthusiasts. A short film telling Jimmie Guthrie’s story can be enjoyed in the comfort of the dedicated viewing area and is not to be missed.

A vibrant programme of visual art, educational, and local-interest exhibitions runs throughout the season, ensuring there is always something new to discover in the stunning Scott and Waterfall Galleries and the Entrance Hall

Before you leave, be sure to visit the Gift Shop on the ground floor, where you’ll find a wide range of souvenirs, books, gifts as well as a range of toys to have fun with in the beautiful Wilton Lodge Park setting.

There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor. We have baby changing facilities in the accessible toilet. There is lift access to the Scott Gallery. A digital tour of the permanent displays is available on the ground floor.

Quiet Wonders: Gentle Museum Mornings are specially scheduled times for visitors who prefer to explore at a slower pace, in a calm and sensory-considered environment. They run from 11am to 12noon on the first Friday of the month. For more information CLICK HERE.
